Reverse Osmosis (RO)
How It Works: RO uses a Semi Permeable Membrane to Remove Dissolved Solids, Heavy Metals, and impurities from the water. Water is forced through the Membrane under High pressure, allowing only Water Molecules to Pass through while blocking larger Particles, ions, and Molecules.
Applications
- Desalination of Seawater and Borewell water
- Removal of Heavy Metals, Nitrates, and Fluoride
- Ideal for areas with high TDS levels
Pros
- High removal efficiency for a wide range of contaminants
- Improves taste and odor of water
Cons
- Wastes significant water (2-3 liters of Wastewater per liter of Purified water)
- Removes essential minerals, making the water slightly Acidic but modern RO Water Purifiers come with TDS Controllers and Mineral Boosters to address this.
- Requires electricity and has high Maintenance Costs
Effectiveness:
- RO Removes 90 to 99% of Sodium and Chloride ions
- Removes 95 to 99% of Calcium and Magnesium ions and Reducing water hardness
- Achieves 85 to 95% Removal of Nitrate and Fluoride
- Highly effective (95-99%) in removing heavy metals like lead, Mercury, Arsenic, and Cadmium
TDS Controllers and Mineralizers
- TDS Controller: A TDS Controller helps to Maintain the Desired level of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) by mixing Filtered water with Raw water and Retaining Essential Minerals.
- Mineralizer: In Some RO Water Purifiers with no TDS Controllers, these Mineral Boosters add essential Minerals like Calcium and Magnesium back into the RO-purified water and Enhance the water taste.
Ultraviolet (UV)
How It Works: UV purification uses Ultraviolet light to kill or inactivate Microorganisms like Bacterium, Virus by destroying their DNA, ensuring biological safety. It does not remove Physical or Chemical contaminants.
Applications
- Disinfection of Water to kill Bacteria, Viruses, and Protozoa
- Often used with other filtration methods
Pros
- Effective against all types of Pathogens
- No chemical Residues or byproducts
- Low maintenance and does not Alter water taste
Cons
- Does not remove Chemical contaminants, Heavy metals, or physical impurities
- Requires electricity
Effectiveness:
- Kills bacteria, Viruses, and protozoa but leaves their dead bodies in the water
Ultrafiltration (UF)
How It Works: UF uses a Membrane with larger pores than RO to Remove Suspended solids, Bacteria, and Some Viruses. It works on the principle of size exclusion, physically sieving out Contaminants.
Applications
- Removal of Turbidity, Bacteria, and some viruses
- Suitable for low TDS Water areas
Pros
- No electricity required
- Retains essential minerals
- Lower maintenance compared to RO
Cons
- Does not Remove TDS or Heavy metals
- Less effective than RO in removing smaller Contaminants
Effectiveness:
- Removes Particles, Microorganisms, and Suspended solids
- Not effective against Dissolved salts or Heavy metals
Microfiltration (MF)
How It Works: MF employs a Membrane with Larger pores (0.1 micron) than UF to Filter out Suspended Particles, Bacteria, and Some large viruses. It is primarily used for the removal of Particles and Larger Microorganisms.
Applications
- Purification of Water by Removing suspended particles
- Often Used with other Filtration methods
Pros
- Simple and Cost-effective
- No Electricity is required
Cons
- Does not remove Dissolved Contaminants or Smaller Microorganisms
- Limited in Pathogen Removal compared to UF and RO
Effectiveness:
- Removes larger Particles, Bacteria, and some viruses
- Not effective against Dissolved solids, Heavy Metals, or smaller contaminants
Nanofiltration (NF)
How It Works: NF uses a Membrane with Smaller Pores than UF but larger than RO to remove some dissolved salts, organic compounds, and larger ions. It is particularly effective for applications requiring partial softening and selective removal of Specific Contaminants.
Applications
- Softening Water by Removing divalent ions like Calcium and Magnesium
- Reduction of some organic Contaminants and Pesticides
Pros
- Lower Pressure requirements compared to RO, leading to less energy consumption
- Retains some Beneficial minerals while removing harmful contaminants
- Effective in eliminating heavy metals like iron, Arsenic, and lead
Cons
- Less effective than RO for desalination
- May require pre-treatment to prevent membrane fouling
Effectiveness:
- Removes a Significant portion of TDS including Divalent ions like Calcium, Magnesium and Some Monovalent ions like Sodium, Chloride and Organic molecules
- Partially removes heavy metals like Iron, Arsenic, Lead, Cadmium, and others
Conclusion
Choosing the Right Water Purifier depends on your specific needs and the quality of your water source.
RO is Perfect for areas with high TDS levels and Comprehensive Contaminant Removal, though it is water and energy-intensive.
UV is great for Disinfecting water, making it safe from Pathogens without altering its taste or mineral content.
UF balances by removing Bacteria and Retaining Essential minerals and is suitable for areas with low to moderate contamination.
MF works well for basic filtration needs, removing larger particles and Microorganisms.
NF strikes a middle ground, effectively removing some Dissolved salts and organic molecules while retaining beneficial minerals and being more Energy-efficient than RO.
For the best results, especially in areas with diverse Contamination issues, a combination of technologies like RO+UV+UF is often the best choice.
After the filtration collected water showing 852 TDS in Ro/uv/ uf filtration filter. Is this water drinkable?
852 TDS is high, Make sure to install an RO water Purifier to reduce the TDS.
TDS of water supplied to us is approximately 100. We are planning to buy combo of UV+UF Also a normal filter attached outside to it. We want to refrain from buying RO. Is it a good decision?
Yes, you can go with the UV UF water purifier. The TDS levels in your water is Good and there is no need to for an RO water purifier.
What is the difference between UF and HD purifiers (Aquagaud and Dr.Aquagaurd)?
UV Bulb is used in water purifiers because UV rays are capable of killing the bacteria and virus in the water. RO water purifiers are capable of removing the dissolved salts from the water. UF membrane, HD Filters are used for removing the suspended impurities like dust and mud particles. RO UV UF are the most commonly used water purification technologies. Manufacturers use different names for marketing purposes.
If ro and uf function likely equal functions then why we go to take both of it
The RO Membrane has smaller pores than the UF membrane. The functioning is similar but the UF can not remove the dissolved salts because of the larger pores in the membrane.
How much wats using in UV and how much suitabale
I have tfs level up to 300 and I have purchased havels active plus uv +UF MY Concern is i don’t want to remove much minerals from water but in uf also water is dispersed as outlet as waster water
Dissolved Salts and Minerals will not be removed by UV UF water purifiers.
Does the uf and uv combination purifier reject waste water ?
Reject water can be used only for cleaning and washing utensils or Gardening.
Hi,
TDS level is around 850 of bore water in my home. I am planning to buy UF purifier. Is it best option or i have to go for another option. We have no problem with water taste.
For TDS above 500ppm, it is better to go for an RO water purifier.
UF don’t remove any tds.It is desirable to go for RO+UV+UF water purifier.
my bore water tds is 850. yesterday I installed a aquaguad RO UV MTDS purifier. output water tds is below 100.
taste is good. but this purifier doesn’t have UF. please tell me my purifier is safe and appropriate for me or not?
It is safe only. Just RO is enough to remove all the impurities, UV UF or MTDS are there to care of bacterium and other contaminants present in the water which is not passed trough the TDS Controller. Your Purifier is safe and the TDS levels are good. No need to worry.
What is name of cations and anions, Biological Bacteria. How much ppm allowed cations/ anions in water and per swiss / BIS.. please..
My bore well water is having 300 TDS. Which filter is best?
The TDS levels in your water source is good. No need to install an RO water purifier, you can simply buy an UV water purifier that removes the bacteria and other contaminents.
Hi!
I am having Kent Pride Plus model which has RO UF TDS controller UV in tanks. But UV in tanks works only half an hour in two hours that means if the tank is refilled before two hours than UV will not work.
Please guide whether the water is safe for drinking.
The TDs level of water is around 150 ,Which purifier should we choose. Is aquaguard Superb a good option or kent maxx
I see a lot of Alkaline Purifiers in market. TDS level in my area are below 200 and sometimes in Summers have to get water through tankers. Please suggest which water purifier RO or Alkaline.
UF don’t remove any tds.It is desirable to go for RO+UV+UF water purifier.
Maximum purifier have RO UV is it ok or we required uf also . I m in dehradun and municipal water tds is around 300
For TDS 300ppm, RO is not required. Only UV/UF is enough.
RO+UV with TDS control is suitable for you.
We are drinking phd supply water
so which purifier is best for us RO or UV?
Alkaline ro is better or normal ro. Can we prefer ro and uv with out uf and tds
Alkaline and Reverse Osmosis are two different methods of water purification. There is no water purifier model that comes with both the RO and Alkaline Purification process. In fact, Alkaline water purifier models are not much available in India. Depending on the TDS levels in your water, you have to opt for an RO or normal UV/UF water purifier. Also, it is better to buy an RO that comes with a TDS Controller or Mineralizer.
TDS 175 is good. RO is not required, you can install an UV/UF water purifier like Kent Maxx.
TDS of water is 175,so for water purifier RO is required or not..only UV is enough?
in my society the water is supplied through only municipalty. there is no borewater. but only on few occassion water tanker is called . i am planning to buy kent maxx as suggested by you. thanks for the reply.
hi sir ,
i have been looking out for a new water purifier for my home .
the water which is supplied is from municipality.
so i am thinking to buy uv uf water purifier .
my budget is 13,000 rs
i m bit confused about which brands should i choose
kent, aquaguard or livpure.
as uv uf technology doesn’t require much maintenance .
planning to use it for the next 10 years .
can u also suggest some good models
hope to get an answer from you soon and thanks in advance.
What are the TDS levels in your water source? As you mentioned that you get water from the municipality, the TDS levels will be generally good, so UV UF water purifier will do the job. But, if you are planning to use the water purifier with borewell water, RO technology is required to purify the water.
Checkout the below uv uf models
Kent Maxx 7 L UV UF Water Purifier
Aquaguard Superb 6.5-Litre UV UF
We have Aquauard Enhance UV RO plant. Water supply is from tubewell , with TDS of around 600. We want to remove/ bypass RO unit / tube.
Is it ok to have unit without RO unit ?
I am in Chennai near the coast. TDS is close to 1800 and the water is slightly salty to taste. Will RO work for me.
Hi Shiva,
I am from Rajasthan. In RO based water purifiers a lot of water is wasted. Does the same holds true for UV/UF combined water purifiers as well. Thanks.
Hi,
Your blog is confusing.
You mentioned
-RO can reduce TDS and also kill and remove germs, bacteria, virus.
-UV kill germs, bacteria, virus (using electricity) Donot remove these dead bodies plus cannot reduce TDS.
-UF kill and remove germs, bacteria, virus. Donot reduce TDS.
1) So if I have high TDS (more than 200) it’s mandatory to use RO. Then why you suggesting to use UV-UF even though RO is doing all??
2) Why are all big brands combining RO, UV,UF together in one product when each of these are doing same task??
3) What is TDS adjuster?? Information I have is companies mix small amount of untreated water in treated to increase TDS level in final water output?? Do you have some insight how it works??
4) With high density membrane water purifiers RO based reduce TDS by90-95%. Then how can they adjust TDS??
If the TDS levels are more than 300ppm, you should opt for an RO water purifiers. Most of the RO water purifiers come with UV/UF combination for additional purification, to ensure the water is 99% free from germs. Please read the below posts to know more about TDS Controllers and Mineralizers.
https://vsctimes.com/total-dissolved-solids/
https://vsctimes.com/tds-controller/
https://vsctimes.com/tds-controller-vs-mineralizer/
I have couple of questions after reading your Article and the posted questions, the basic premise being that the quality and contents of Water keeps on changing from day to day and we CANNOT control it:
1. Why does UV/UF used with a Slash?
2.Do we need only one of these or both?
3.Does any System have both?
4.If one has to choose between UV and UF, which one is better assuming normal Corporation Water which we all know how good or bad it is?
Thanks
Most of the RO water purifiers are equipped either with UV or with UF chambers for additional purification. Now, most of the models come with the combination RO UV UF technologies to ensure that the water is 99% free from bacteria and virus. Have a look at the below models that with RO UV UF Combination.
Kent Grand Plus, Livpure Pep Pro
hi,
can you provide the detailed digrame of parts used in aquaguard uv uf. so that i can myself service the same and if needed replace the parts.
thanks in anticipation.
Hi
The TDS of our boring water is 560 mg/ltr.Which is the best purifier(Ro/UV/UF) to use without affecting the required/essential minerals? And what should be the TDS of a healthy water?
If the TDS of the water is above 400ppm, you have to opt for an RO water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller/Mineralizer. Now, most of the RO water purifiers come with UV/UF combination for providing additional safety. Check out these posts to know more about TDS

Is whirpool Minerala 90 Platinum RO Water Purifier – 8.5 L (8.5 Ltr) filter good? We have Pune corporation water.
What will be the maintenance of RO water purifier.
Thanks in advance for your help!
The water purifier you have mentioned is good and is suitable for water having TDS levels up to 2000ppm. The maintenance cost will be around Rs.3000 – 4000 for most of the RO water purifier models. It is better to check the TDS level in your water source as you get corporation the TDS levels might be already good. If the TDS levels are low, you can simply opt for a UV UF water purifier.
Then can you please suggest some good water filter.
Hi, Your blog is so informative. I’m from Hyderabad and the water we use is of tds level around 320 to 350 and it’s not salty and clear municipal water. Please suggest me, Can I use Aquaguard Crystal Plus UV water purifier.
Thank you,
Bijaya.
Aquaguard Crystal Plus UV is the right choice for you as the TDS levels in your water are good. But, this Aquaguard model does not have a storage tank. In case of power cut, you won’t get water. You can also have a look at Kent Maxx UV that comes with a 7-litre storage tank.
what is ur opinion about Pureit Advanced (RO MF) 5 L RO MF Water Purifier (White)
and kindly helpo me to understand MF .
regards,
Ram
Most of the reverse osmosis water purifiers are equipped with either UV/UF or MF for backup purpose and to make sure that the water is 100% free from the contaminants.
Also, these RO water purifier comes with a TDS controller and a little bit of water is directly sent through the UV or UF chamber to maintain the natural minerals in the water.
MF means microfiltration which is similar to the ultrafiltration.
Hi , does UF filter has any use of it , if the water first passed through RO first and then to UF filter
Our drinking water has TDS of around 350 mg/L, but the hardness is little bit high, as evidenced from the settling in the boiled water and also from the scaling on buckets and taps in the bathroom. Which type of water purifier should be used?
In such condition, you have to opt for an RO water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller or Mineralizer. We have listed the Popular models in this post. Please have a look (https://vsctimes.com/best-water-purifiers-india/)
In a combo of RO and UV does it mean that we can select one of the two to use simultaneously or whether the purifier will itself use both together? Also, I have borewell water at home so which is the best one suited?
Both RO and UV will work together. First, the water passes through the RO which eliminates hard metals and most of the bacterium form the water. Then the water passes through the UV chamber for additional purification, just to ensure that the water is 100% free from contaminants. For borewell water, it is better to go with a RO UV water purifier like Kent Grand Plus, Kent ACE Mineral, Livpure Glo.
Sir minimum and higher range of tds for drinking water
Please have a look at this article: https://vsctimes.com/total-dissolved-solids/
Hi i am looking for water purifier and in my area water is hard and we also use boring water.. My son falls sick frequently.. What type of ro we shud go for.
Hi There, If your water source is Hard, you have to go for an RO water purifier that removes the hard metals and salts from the water. It is better to take your water sample to a lab and check the TDS levels and if there any presence of harmful salts in the water. If the TDS level is high and not much harmful metals in the water then you can go with an RO water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller (EX: Kent Grand Plus, Kent ACE Mineral, Livepure RO) If there is presence of a harmful substance in the water, then you can go with an RO water purifier that offers 100% RO water purification Mineralizer (100% water passes through RO Membrane and Minerals will be added at the end EX: LG RO water purifiers)
Hi,
The place where I am staying, the TDS level of the tap water is 330. And the water has high levels of arsenic and iron. I am currently using Pureit Marvella UV filter along with an iron guard. Is this filtered water safe for drinking. Or do I need to install an RO filter?
Thank you.
If Arsenic is present in your water source, you have to use an RO Water Purifier that removes the hard metals. Marvella UV cannot remove the dissolved salts from the water, it only removes bacterium.
without RO filtration ,you can’t use for drinking purpose. Arsenic lable may be dangerous for human health.
Thanks
Hi,
What is the difference between RO and RO UV ?
If I’ll get mix water , some time TDS high , some time low… How RO UV work in that case ?
I read few articles and got to know that RO filter remove essential minerals also so not good for health…
Most of the RO water purifiers are equipped with UV Bulb for additional or backup purification purpose. Normally, RO is enough to remove all the salts and bacterium. In Most of the Reverse Osmosis water purifiers, 100% water does not pass through the RO membrane, some water will be directly sent to UV Chamber, this is done to retain the natural minerals in the water. In Some models, all the water will pass through RO membrane and in the end minerals will be added. Please have a look at the below articles to know more information.
https://vsctimes.com/tds-controller-vs-mineralizer/
https://vsctimes.com/tds-controller/
https://vsctimes.com/tds-drinking-water/
RO is also a water purifier. The RO water purifiers should be used in the places where the TDS levels in the water are high. If the TDS levels in the water source is below 300ppm, then you can go with a simple UV or UF water purifier. The Purification process is almost same in most of the RO water purifiers. It is always a good idea to go for the brand that provides quick support at your place.
We get borewell water mixed with municipal water for drinking purpose. Should I go for water purifier or RO. Also, I have shortlisted Aquaguard Geneus and LG puricare model. Kindly suggest the brand ( can be other than this) and model I need to purchase.
Hi Chaitanya,
I am in chennai and my water TDS level (1000 ) and salt is very high (some time water will come like brown yellow colour) Kindly advise which is the best water purifier and Cost effective. Which are the specialities is required compulsory.
TDS 1000 is very high and the water is not suitable for consumption. In Such cases, you have to opt for an Reverse Osmosis water purifier. The RO water purifiers are capable of removing the dissolved salts, hard metals and other bacterium from the water. The Annual Maintenance cost will be around Rs.4000 for an RO water purifier. It also depends on the TDS levels in your water and water usage. Please checkout the below RO water purifier models.
Kent Grand Plus
Kent ACE Mineral
Pureit Mineral Classic
Livpure Glo
Bluestar Majesto
Aquaguard Geneus
Hi, is tds controller and mineraliser both are same?
No, They are different. Please check out this article to know the difference.
https://vsctimes.com/tds-controller-vs-mineralizer/
Which brand of water purifier(RO UV UF)(Dr Aquaguard, Kent…. etc) is best .
which water purifier is required for iron rich water?
Sir, I used borewell water it contains 420ppm. which water purifier you will suggest.
For Borewell water, it is better to go with an RO water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller.
All the UV water purifiers are capable of killing the bacteria and virus while the UF water purifiers can remove pesticides and other dissolved pollutants like bacterium and cysts, it cannot remove dissolved salts from the water. So, it is better to opt for an RO water purifier if there are harmful chemicals in the water source.
I want to know which uv uf filter separate the pesticides and harmful chemicals from water.
Thanks, Chaitanya for the pretty informative post. Can you help me understand the advantage of larger pores in UF when compared to RO?I’m trying to see if my water purifier has RO does it require UF again?
RO is better than UF. Ultrafiltration water purifiers have larger pores than RO and they cannot remove the dissolved salts from the water. In Most of the RO water purifiers a part of the water will not pass through the RO membrane and directly goes through UV/UF. This is done to maintain the TDS levels in the water. So, it is better to opt for a water purifier that comes with RO UV/UF combination.
Hi Chaitanya,
Your blog is pretty informative. I would like to know which purifier will suit 130PPM TDS level in water. I am getting multi source water and TDS varies often. Highest i have observed is 130PPM.
The TDS levels in your water source is good i.e. 130 PPM. TDS Levels above 500 is not good. In that case, you need to opt for an RO water purifier. For TDS levels below 400ppm, UV UF water purifier is good. Checkout Kent Maxx 7 litre UV UF water purifier
Thanks Chaitanya. I have bought Kent Pearl which is RO UV UF TDS Controller, since TDS level goes above 200 PPM at times.
Hello sir,
A couple of days back i got to hear about a company named as wave which manufactures water purifiers. It has this option of RO UV UF and is available under 10,000 rs.
Any suggestions, should i go for it or stick to my previous ro purifier brand i.e. kent, which is priced at 16000 rs. ??
What about the Service Quality provided by that brand? Does that water purifier has a TDS Controller/Mineralizer? Can you gather more information about the Purification process of that water purifier. Also, Kent ACE Mineral is a good water purifier and is priced around Rs.13000.
Hi please suggest me which is better AMONG RO UV TDS CONTROLLER AND RO UF TDS CONTROLLER
There is no much difference. In General, RO is enough to remove all the dissolved salts and the bacterium from the water. UV/UF are employed for the backup purpose. Both the combinations you have mentioned are good. RO UV is the popular one.
Sir blue mount company has a feature of alkaline instead of tds controller in what way is it beneficial, and I think my tap water tds level is below 300
I have Just seen Blue Mount website and there is no much information about the purification process. Actually, RO and Alkaline Purification are different water purification technologies. Alkaline (Electrolysis) water purifiers give water that is less acidic and rich in calcium, potassium and other Alkalizing compounds.
Hello Chaitanya
I am from Kolkata
Considering to purchase a water purifier
I have read that RO removes essential minerals from water such as magnesium and calcium due to which consuming RO purified water is harmful for your health in the long run.
New purifiers have come up in the market which claim to add back necessary minerals. Can you please suggest which would be best considering all pros and cons (UV / UF / RO / etc) to the health?
I need one which will provide only healthy water for my family and will not cause any side effects to the health in the long run.
RO water purifiers with TDS Controllers / Mineralizers retains natural minerals in the water and the required minerals will not be lost. If the TDS levels (Salt levels) in your water are high, you can install an RO water purifier otherwise no need for an RO water purifier. For Low TDS water, UV UF water purifiers will do the job. I have listed all the Top RO, UV UF water purifiers in this Post. Please have a look. Go for the brand that provides good support at your place.
https://vsctimes.com/best-water-purifiers-india/
I get corporation water which has low TDS. I had ordered for a 6 Lt. UV UF water filter but by mistake the Seller(Amazon) has sent a RO UF water filter.
I can return it but I am not sure whether I will be paid the full transportation charges as I may have to Insure it also. More than that I
I want to know what will be the approximate AMC maintenance cost difference between RO UF and UV UF filters.
Regards
RO membrane is costlier than a UV bulb or UF membrane. So, the maintenance cost for RO water purifiers will be around Rs.3000 – Rs.4000 per year. For UV UF water purifiers, AMC will be around Rs.1000 – Rs.1500.
If the tds level is less than 200ppm then only go for UV water purifiers.
I am using Alfaa’s Ewater – UV water purifier. I am very happy with their product quality as well as after-sales service.
Water having TDS levels below 300 is considered as excellent and there is no need for an RO water purifier if your TDS levels are around 200 ppm. A UV UF water is good and is capable of removing the bacterium and other suspended impurities from the water. You can find more about the TDS levels here: https://vsctimes.com/total-dissolved-solids/
Thanks for quick reply.
can you please suggest best UV UF water purifier.
Check out the below models
Kent Maxx
Aquaguard Superb
Blue Star Pristina UV
Hi,
In my home(Ghaziabad) we are getting water supply which has TDS around 190-200. I called the Kent agent and as per him TDS should
be less then 100. should RO required or UV UF is good? Please suggest.
Our is ground water with tds 270/- checked by one kent sales person.
I am living in rented oremised and when i change house the tds could increase
If i go for ro uv uf from LG is it ok or will the water be depleted of minerals.
Or should i go for aquagard genius
Pl suggest i am confused
LG RO water purifiers are good and they come with a Mineral Booster that retains essential minerals like calcium and magnesium. If you are not sure about the TDS levels in the water, you can opt for LG water purifiers. You can find more details about the LG water purifiers here: https://vsctimes.com/lg-water-purifiers-price/
Hi Chaitanya,
In HYD using boor water tds(800 to100) it’s changes avery time now i am thinking to by Dr. Aquaguard Magna NXT HD RO UV this is god for me / i have to go RO UV UF also as you maintended above answers i understand that RO UV good for me can you please suggest. Thanks and advance.
Aquaguard Magna NXT HD RO UV is a good water purifier and it works with all kinds of water sources having TDS levels up to 2000ppm. Also, there is a mineral guard to retain the natural minerals in the water. If Aquaguard provides good service at your place, you can go with it.
Thanks for the advice. yes we have best service for AQUAGUARD in my location
One again thanks. Have good time.
🙂
How to check TDs level in water. I am staying in Bangalore and using supply as well as borewell water. So please refer me a budget friendly purifier.
You can use a simple TDS meter to check the TDS levels in your water. You can also contact Kent, Puriet or any other brand service personnel and request them to check the TDS levels in your water. Normally, Groundwater in most places has high TDS levels. Have a look at some of the budget RO water purifiers.
Pureit Mineral Classic
Livpure Glo
Kent Maxx – Suitable for Low TDS water
No need to go with an RO water purifier as the TDS levels in your water source is good. You can simply opt for a UV/UF water purifier. The UV UF water purifier will be suitable for low TDS water and they will kill, remove bacterium, virus, and cysts from the water. The Maintenance cost for these models will also be low when compared with RO water purifiers.
Which type of water purifier should we use in home. As TDS of MC water is around 350. I am living in Ludhiana (Punjab)India
My TDS is around 100 so what is the water purifiers?
How is dr aqua guard classic
Aquaguard Classic Plus is the right choice for Low TDS water. But, this model does not have a storage tank and there will be no water when there is power outage. You can also have a look at Kent Maxx.
Sir,
I installed RO : Kent Pearl in 2013. (Almost 4 years now)
It has RO UF UV with TDS Control, Auto-Flushing System along with UV fail Alarm. In addition to that I have installed 2 pre-filters (in series) which I change every 6 months).
Periodically, I also do the basic cleaning of filters by removing them and attaching water pipe in reverse direction & taping method.
My RO is working fine with Input Water TDS 268-300 & output TDS around 68-70 (Today I adjusted it to 200)
What I want to know is that although the unit seem to be working fine, should I change any filters (or UV lamp) inside the unit ?
Thanks
As the TDS levels in your water source are good, there is no need to change the filters. Also, there is UV Fail Alarm that notifies about UV Bulb failure. As you are using Machine since 4 years, it is better to get your water quality checked by Kent Service Personnel.
Dear Mr. VS Chaitanya
Thanks for your prompt response.
I have a TDS meter with me. Apart from TDS is there anything else I need to get checked for water quality ?
Thanks
UV UF combination works great for low tds water. UV can kill all the bacterium and virus. It is employed along with UF for backup purpose. Only the RO water purifiers are expensive. You can have a look at Kent Maxx. It is priced around 7k.
Many Thanks
Sir
Would like to know which filter i should use for bathing and brushing , as our water has smell of drainage water.
I have no idea about water purifiers that are suitable for bathing purpose. The water purifiers I have mentioned in this site are suitable for purifying drinking water only.
In my water supply the TDS is only 170 but the water is smelly and muddy. Is there any problem if I go for UF
If UF does all the work of of UV then why the combination of UV UF which is expensive.
i have water source DELHI Jal board and i choosing classic aquaguard is it ok and what if choose any ro water purifier
The water purifier you have mentioned is suitable for Low TDS water having TDS levels below 200 ppm. Normally, Government Supplied water is already treated. So, UV/UF water purifier is good.
is there any method to check TDS level at home? I get ground water from 360 feet boring water dosnt taste bad , all it has bad smell that too goes away after 1/2 hours of storage . what type purifier will suite ?
In Most Places, the Ground water will have high TDS levels. You can call any water purifier brand customer support and get the TDS levels in your water checked at your home.
Hi, I am staying in faridabad sector 31. Water in faridabad is very hard. I heard (not sure) the TDS is around 3000 ppm.
could you please advice:
1. which water purifier is best.
2. I read about RO/UV and UF types and differences. But what about the combination of two types? Which combination tyoe should I go for?
TDS levels 3000ppm is very high. Most of the Brands make water purifiers that work only with water having TDS levels up to 2000 ppm. Some of the RO water purifiers come with UV / UF combination. Ultraviolet or Ultrapurification are employed along with RO just for the backup purpose. It is better to request Kent/Aquaguard or any other brand technician to visit your home and get the TDS levels checked.
Hi, i am staying in gk2 in New Delhi where we get Sonia Vihar water and it’s TDS is around 90 so what should we buy??? RO OR UV. But I am bit confused that uv will deactivate germs not kill them. Pls. Help???
No need for an RO water purifier if the TDS levels are low. Some of the UV water purifiers come with UF combination. So, the bacterium will be completely removed from the water. Check out the below models.
Kent Maxx
Aquaguard Superb
For T.D.S levels above 500 you may choose RO with U.V , but for anything less than 440 levels you need only U.V . Ideally healthy water should have TDS levels of atleast 220 , so if you decrease this using RO it only leads to drinking water depleted of essential minerals
Dear Sir
We are getting a supply of water having TDS 500 to 700.
I have two options in kent brand
1. Kent pride RO UF
2. KENT SUPER STAR RO UV.
Or shall I go for kent grand plus RO UF UV.
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance
Both Kent Grand Plus and Super Star function in a similar way. The Purification Process is same. These brands introduce more number of models for Branding and Marketing purpose. Kent Pride RO comes with UF combination and Kent Grand Plus RO comes with UV, UF combination. Both these models are Priced Almost the Same. So, It is better to opt for Kent Grand Plus.
Hi , I have two qns to ask.
1. I was told by a sales specialist that Kent uses TDS controller which basically mixes raw water with the RO UV water to give the taste and to maintain TDS. What is your opinion on this ?
2. I live in chennai and using bore water with TDS 900. I need RO UV TDS controller or mineraliser. I have narrowed down to Pureit Ultima Mineral , Kent Grand plus, Aquaguard Enhance, Aquaguard Geneus. Which model do you suggest on water quality and service point of view?
TDS Controller and Mineralizer are same. To Maintain the TDS levels, some water will not pass through the RO chamber. Instead, the water will be directly passed via UV, UF chambers for maintaining the TDS levels. In some other brands, 100% water passes through RO, but the TDS reduction will be done only 90%. Both cases are almost similar.
All the water purifiers you have mentioned are suitable for high TDS water. Go for the brand that provides good support at your place. Service Quality might differ from one place to other even within the same city.
Hello Sir, We have borewell water and it has lot of dirt. We have to clean the tap filter in 2-3 days as it gets choked. We were planning for pure it ultima mineral or Aquaguard Superb. Both are in same price range. Which is better in this case and do we need a pre-filter? Thanks in advance.
Both the water purifiers you have mentioned are good and are suitable for High TDS water also. There is no need for pre-filter. Pureit Ultima comes with a pre-sediment filter, Pre-RO carbon filter and all the visible and suspended dust particles will be removed before the water passes through the RO membrane. Aquaguard Superb RO UV UF water purifier also comes with a silver impregnated carbon cartridge that removes residual organic impurities.
But, the only problem with these brands is Service Quality. The service provided by these brands differ from one place to other. If the Water Purifier is not installed properly, there will be some problems like water leakage and the Maintenace cost will also increase. So, Go for the brand that provides better service at your place.
Thank you for bringing out the service factor. I’ll try to check this in my area. I was wondering if the Aquaguard UF has added advantage compared to Pure it or both models are comparable in this factor and overall.
Normally, RO is enough to remove all the impurities. UF / UV are added for additional protection. Aquaguard comes with UF whereas Pureit Ultima has Post RO Carbon filter. Both, the water purifiers function in a similar way.
Sir i have purchased Dr aqua guard HD Magna ro uv. Problem is that is That model is same or not because i think where model is specified on ro can be easily changed without opening machine and same model is also available at low version. So how can I check the particular model i purchased. No.2 is this model perfect for me?.do it has tds controller? My inlet water tds level is 250.thx sir
Where do you purchase that water purifier? The Model Number will be mentioned on the packaging box. Normally, for TDS level below 300, RO is not required. UV or UF are suitable for Low TDS water. But, as Aquaguard HD Magna comes with a TDS controller, there will be no problem.
i am using well water which water purifier u suggest to me .we have very low water in march april may so which is the low water wastage purifiers ??
For Water having Low TDS levels, UV UF water purifier is good. Also, there will be no water wastage with UV or UF water purifiers. But, these water purifiers are good only with water having low TDS levels below 500 ppm. So, Please get your TDS levels checked by Kent, Aquaguard, Pureit or any other brand service personnel. In case, the TDS levels are high, you have to opt for an RO water purifier.
There will be some water wastage with any Brand RO water purifier. But, you can collect the reject water via Drain tube and use it for other purposes like Floor Mopping, Clean Utensils, and Watering Plants.
Hello sir
I want to buy a Purification system for home use..being in Army I keep changing places so can’t be sure of the water conditions..
Which system should I go for..??
RO UV UF ?
I saw LG purifier with steel tank..but it is only RO, Will it suffice my need of pure drinking water..?
Are all 3 i.e RO, UV And UF reqd.. or only RO Will do..?
Thanks
UV and UF are used along with RO for backup/Additional safety. Normally, RO Membrane can remove all the Hard Metals, Bacterium and other contaminants. Water passes through UV or UF before it enters the RO membrane. This can improve the life of an RO membrane. Most of the water purification brands use Food Safe, non-toxic, ABS Plastic. LG RO water purifiers are good, but they are priced a little bit higher than Kent, Aquaguard, Pureit, and Livepure.
Dear , I HAVE 3 WATER SOURCES ie. OPEN WELL , BORE WELL AND PANCHAYAT WATER SUPPLY RECEIVED FROM A NEARBY DAM. I AM RESIDING IN PALAKKAD DISTRICT OF KERALA AND THE DAILY USAGE IS ANYTHING BETWEEN 10 TO 15 LITRES. PLEASE ADVICE.
As you are getting water from multiple sources, It is better to opt for an RO UV water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller. Check out the below models.
Livpure Glo
kent ace mineral
Kent Grand Plus
Pureit Mineral Classic
I have metropolitan water connection in my home, what purifier can I use?
Usually, the TDS levels in the Metropolitan water will be low. So, you can opt for a UV/UF water purifier.
Check out Kent Maxx UV UF Water Purifier
If you are not sure about the TDS Levels in your water, you can opt for an RO water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller. I have listed the top models in this post. Please have a look.
https://vsctimes.com/best-ro-uv-water-purifiers/
I am really confused, please reply, i heard that local uv ro uf water filters are not reliable, i have stomach issues so I heard that Kent RO is good by word of mouth but i read an article and it showed that only 3 water filters remove e coli bacteria responisble for stomach issues, namely, pureit advance, aquasure and unitex waterpot.
After due research i found tha taquasure and untiex are nt worth it due to service issues but pureit advance got reviews all round but the only issue is that Hindustan lever Pureit advance has only ro uv combination, they dont have uf also with ro and uv , and kent doesn’t claim anywhere that they filter e coli bacteria. what should i buy ? i like pureit advance the best but it doesn’t have uf and kent doesn’t claim filtering e coli otherwise it has good reviews too,
All the Major water purification brands including Kent, Pureit, and Aquaguard employ a similar process to purify the water. E-Coil bacteria in water is due to sewage or animal waste contamination. E. coli 0157:H7 can cause intestinal infection. Boiling of water (Rolling Boil 100 C) will kill the E-Coil Bacteria. Always store the water in a clean sanitized pot.
Sir I get water from my submersible motor which has boring till 360 feet deep, water is almost good but it has a unpleasant odor which lasts till 3 to 4 hours. In this case, please suggest me to choose between RO and UF. I don’t prefer RO because it removes all the minerals dissolved.
it means if the water purifier is having only RO technology then the purifier is well enough for purify the water for drinking
RO is enough to remove all the impurities in the water. But, now most of the water purification brands are using activated carbon filter, sediment filter to remove suspended impurities. By doing this, the life of the RO membrane will be upped. Some of the RO water purifiers come with UV/UF combination to ensure 99% purity.
Dear Srinivas, have gone through the last posts and thought this was really informative.
You’d recommended Kent ACE Mineral, Kent Grand Plus, Pureit Mineral Classic, Aquaguard Enhance, Aquaguard Ultima for RO with TDS. How do I get an understanding of maintenance cost for each of these models – I understand this can be anywhere in the range of 3-10K every year. Pls let me know if any of these is better than others from a service experience and maintenance cost perspective. I reside in New Delhi.
Maintenance cost will be around ₹2,000 only. If the installation is not done properly, there will be leakage and other problems and the maintenance cost will be high. So, Make sure you get the service and installation done only by the Authorized brand representative. The service provided by these brands differ from one place to other. Aquaguard also provides Annual Maintenance Package that costs around ₹4000.
Hi. Srinivasa Chaitanya
Today I installed Kent UV water purifier. I’m from Chennai.
I thought it was RO UV. Now only I came to know that it is only UV. Really upsets. I need RO.
Can you please suggest me, is there any alternative solution? Means any external kit for RO.
Thanks in advance!!
Unfortunately, There is no external RO kit that you can connect to UV Purifier. IF you had bought the product online, you can return it within 10 days (Unused/new Condition only).
I want to buy a water purifier. The water supply includes the ground water and municipal water. The requirement will include improvement in taste so i assume RO is included. As we are a family of two people, too much storage is not required. But i am concerned about two things:
– Want to reduce the amount of water that goes to waste.
– Avoid frequent service and want to know the amount of money that i will need to spend annually on service/filters etc.
Thanks
The RO water purifiers come with a Drain Tube for collecting the reject water. Normally, the Darin tube goes into your Kitchen Sink. You can collect that reject water into a bucket and use it for Cleaning utensils. You can ask the service personnel for a longer drain tube and use the reject water for the Gardening purpose. Since you are a family of two members, the amount of water usage will be low and the maintenance cost will also be less. Just make sure you get the installation of the water purifier done only by the Brand Authorized service personnel. Check out the below models
Livpure 7 L RO UV UF
Pureit Classic RO MF
Pureit 6 Litres Mineral Classic
Livpure Glo 7-Litre RO UV Mineralizer
I will not suggest anyone buy the water purifiers you have mentioned. The Conventional Low Budget RO water purifier you have mentioned will wash away all the Minerals in the water and there will be no control over TDS levels. If you are on a Budget, check out Pureit Classic RO MF
Kinsco Aqua Style, AQUAGRAND AQUA, and BLAIR 15 LTR RO. I have a low budget …can you please tell me which will be best.. my budget is under 6 thousand.
Hi sir
I am living in north east up and I have under ground water supply form municipality so plz tell me which water purifier is best for me.
Ground water might have High TDS levels. So, It is better to go with RO UV water purifier. Pureit Mineral Classic, Kent Grand Plus, Kent ACE Mineral, Pureit Ultima, Aquaguard Geneus are some of the Top models. Also, have a look at Livepure RO water purifiers. They are also providing good support.
Hello!
I have read the above comments and feedbacks and yet I desire to ask you….
We are from the defence and after much thought we picked up Aquaguard Compact model as wherever we get posted we get govt. supply.
Got posted to Delhi where we are currently getting hardwater TDS is as high as 400 and have been using aquaguard for cooking whereas for drinking we are relying on bottled water.
BOttled water is expensive and I need your suggestion as to what can I do?
One should I switch to RO?is there any RO model where I can control the salt levels. But have recieved negative views as RO kills essential salts as well.
Or should I cont. like this and await for our next posting!
THank You
RO water purifiers that are equipped with a TDS controller or Mineralizer can retain the natural minerals in the water. So, Only the toxic – Hard metals will be removed and essential minerals are retained. Check out Kent ACE Mineral, Kent Grand Plus, Pureit Mineral Classic, Aquaguard Enhance, Aquaguard Ultima. These RO water purifiers can work with water having TDS levels up to 1500 ppm. Make sure you opt only for a Branded RO that comes with a TDS controller.
I am planning for unbranded water purifier. What are pros and cos over branded water purifier except after sales service?
I talked to two local suppliers, both offers low TDS result but their pricing is quite different. What are the factors should I look into before selecting one?
Most of the Unbranded RO water purifier do not have a TDS controller and all the minerals in the water will get washed out. Water Purifier is a one-time investment. Why opt for an Unbranded product when the branded RO water purifiers are available at an affordable price!
I am living in Navi Mumbai. Using a UV water purifier for long time for municipal supplied water. For last couple of months I am having stomach problem. Doctor suggesting to use boil water.
Could you please suggest me a good water purifier which can solve the purpose.
I am confused between RO, UV, YES, MTDC, UF terminology.
The TDS levels in your water might be on the higher side. SO, you can opt for an RO UV water purifier. I have mentioned the Top RO UV water purifiers in this site. Please browse to find the right product that suits your needs. Kent, Aquaguard, Pureit, Livepure are some of the Top brands.
Yes, TDS regulator/Mineralizer is a must have when you are buying an RO water purifier. The job of RO membrane is to remove all the Hard, Toxic Metals like Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium and other Salts from the water. The TDS controller makes sure that natural minerals are retained. So, the water will be pure and also tasty with the required amount of minerals.
I’m about to shift to ranchi and so i dont know the lvl of TDS of water in ranchi!
I also want some suggestions on which purifier i should buy! Aquaguard genus/enhance/ pureit ultima. Aquaguard comes with TDS regulator.
Pls suggest me!
And do i really need a TDS regulator? Btw what imapct does it have on the purfication?
All the models you have mentioned comes with a TDS regulator and can work with any kind of water source with TDS levels up to 1500 ppm. You have to opt for the brand that provides quick support at your place. Kent, Pureit, Aquaguard, Tata Swach are some of the reputed water purifier brands in India. The service provided by these brands might differ from place to place.
i was told by one of my friend who is working in the water purifier field that if RO purifier is not required & if i will be using the same there is a chance of getting stomach problem. is it correct or not. can you please guide me in this regard.
the problem is my job is transferable with short notice, as of now i am staying in mumbai and using BMC water. As per the person who came for demo only uv is required. because of my job profile i thought of buying the RO purifier. pls guide me to take a good decision.
What your friend said is not right. You don’t get stomach or any other problems when you use an RO water purifier at your home. Branded RO water purifiers that come with TDS controller/Mineralizer also retains natural minerals in the water. If there is no TDS controller, all the minerals in the water will be lost. So, It is better to opt for an RO that comes with a TDS controller. Check out https://vsctimes.com/best-ro-uv-water-purifiers/ this post to find full details about RO water purifiers.
If RO removes dissolved salts , and kill viruses and germs then with 300 above Tds we should use RO purifier
Why there is a need for combination of RO UV
If RO works in both way so why we prefer combination could u please suggest there are lot of confusion
UV is just there for further protection or backup. The UV bulb doesn’t cost much and works for a long time. So, the water purifier brands install it to ensure the water is 99% free from contaminants.
use borewell water, do you suggest UV filter.
UV water purifier is suitable for Low TDS water. If your water is salty or the TDS is high, you have to opt for RO water purifier.
RO is not required for Low TDS. You can opt for UV UF water purifier. Have a look at Kent Maxx, Pureit Marvella UV water purifiers. In case your shift from one place to other or your water source changes, It is better to opt for RO water purifier.
I get municipal water supply and TDS recorded is between 100 to 110…Pls suggest which water filter do i need to install at home. we have a family of 4….Would just UV or UV UF satisfy or RO UV is needed for 110 TDS..pls suggest the best and economical purifier based on the annual maintenance cost…
Hi chaitanya
I Manish lived in rohtak. I want to buy water purifier but I m liitle bit confused , can you help me regarding this.
Water is having dust particles which get settled down and past few days taste and odour are unbearable.
So , that’s why I planned which technology nd which brand purifier are best.
As there are a lot of Dust particles in the water and the taste, the odour is bad, you need an RO UV UF Purifier. Have a look at Kent Grand Plus, Aquaguard Geneus.
Sir, now we are using kent Maxx UV UF . in order to upgrade, in the same unit can we able to add RO filter ?? please confirm.
Hello,
Where you have given column wise differentiation above between Ro, Uv and UF purifiers, you have mentioned that NO electricity required for UF purifeirs.
But below you have stated that UF purifiers works with electricity .
Need clarification for the same.
Thanks
Rupali
Thanks for mentioning. It is my mistake. UF water purifiers don’t require electricity and suitable for Low TDS water.
I am from Bangalore, We get Cauvery water and TDS level before filtering is 110-115, I have Aquagurd Total NF Reviva model water filter. TDS level comes around 32-38 after filter with RO, Can you please let me know if it is safe to drink and what should be minimum TDS level. Is it safe to drink bypassing RO ,Please let me know.
Rain Water is the purest form of the water, and the TDS levels for Rain Water will be around 30. For TDS levels around 100, RO is not required. But, if the water purifier comes with a TDS Controller, No minerals will be lost. I am not sure if the Model you have mentioned comes with a TDS controller.
Water in the well is recharging with irrigation canal water. The water in well is used for drinking. So I want to know the good water purifier.
Well water might have high TDS levels. But, as you mentioned It is refilling with Irrigation canal water, you have to make sure the TDS levels in that water. If the water is Hard, you have to opt for an RO water purifier.
Hi,
Kent/Aquaguard which retain essential minerals does not pass all the water through the RO. So there is a possibility that some dissolved salts like Arsenic and lead will not get removed (From water flow diagram of instruction booklet). Any thoughts?
First, the raw water passes through the sediment filter, activated carbon filter and the to the RO. Once the water passes through the RO, it is also passed to the Ultrafiltration and Ultra violet radiation. Kent’s Mineral RO is certified by water quality association, USA, and the Bureau of Indian standards.
We live in North 24Parganas, West Bengal. and use personal pump water. I ask to know what is the defference between TDS remover and TDS Controller ? what is best for me ?
If you get Hard water, I suggest you buy an RO water purifier that comes with a TDS Controller. I have listed all the top models in this site. Please check them.
What is the Difference Between TDS Remover and TDS Controller ? I could not understand which purifiers is best for home uses.
TDS remover removes all the salts present in the water which is not good. Some Minerals like Calcium and Magnesium are required in the water. On the other hand, Some of the top branded RO water purifiers come with a TDS controller or Mineral Guard that retains the natural minerals in the water and only hard metals will be removed.
Comment:wich one is best RO UF or RO uv in kent brand please suggest me
and some are there have ala ro uv mf is that really make sense?
RO is required to remove Hard metals, salts in the water. UV is for killing bacteria. UF membrane is required when there are a lot of suspended particles, dust in your water.
Micro Filtration is also similar to Ultra Filtration except for the membrane size.
I am trying to decide between Kent Maxx (UV UF) and Kent Ultra (UV).
I understand that Kent Ultra has a sediment filter and carbon filter in addition to the UV tube to take care of any dirt or impurities in water. In that case, is it still better to go for Kent Maxx at a higher cost or Kent Ultra would suffice.
We live in Mumbai and get municipal water at home.
If you are sure that there is no visible dust particles in your water, UV is enough.
I was told by a vendor that in an RO UV purifier, the RO is used for 50-60% of the water being purified and the balance is purified through UV in parallel. This is done to ensure that TDS does go below 30 or so which can make the water taste extremely bitter. So basically what he said was that its not as if the water first gets filtered through RO and then through UV.
Do you think that is correct?
Have not really been able to find how a RO UV works in terms of the purification steps.
RO and UV Purification technologies are entirely different.
RO Uses very fine membranes to remove the dissolved particles from the water. Ro is capable of removing Hard metals like Arsenic and Lead from ground water.
UV uses Ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and viruses. If the water contains more dust particles, the UV rays are blocked by dust and not kill bacteria.
Conventional RO water purifiers that are available in the local market (unbranded) remove all the minerals from the water.
But, the RO water purifiers that I have mentioned comes with TDS controllers.
The TDS controllers/modulators can retain the natural minerals present in water. So, the water is not only mineral rich but also taste good.
Sorry, made a mistake there. I’m getting RO UV .
Thanks
Now I’ve more questions than answers 😐 .
RO UF or RO MF . I think UF is better than MF cause the pores are smaller.
What do you think ?
Smaller the pores better will be the technology to remove dissolved particles. Kent RO UV technology is an award winning technlogy. I have been using Kent Grand in my home from the past year and have not faced any problems. The taste of the water is also good. But, i have to say that there is some water wastage. I am collecting all the drain water into a bucket and using it for cleaning purposes.
Now that’s what I call a quick reply.
Thanks Mr. Srinivasa Chaitanya. Ill go to your website and find a good one n then buy it
You are welcome, Salman.
RO UV OR RO UF ?
Hah! which one would you prefer. I can’t decide 🙁 .
Please tell me the advantages/disadvantages of both 🙂
Thanks a lot man
Hey Salman, I would prefer RO UV water purifier. UF water purifiers have mebranes that are larget than RO membranes. While RO technology remove dissolved salts like Arsenic and Lead, the UV rays kill bacteria and viruses.
Please checkout the https://vsctimes.com/
I have compiled the list of best water purifiers.
