These are the rules every page on VSCTimes is written under. They are short because they are meant to be kept, not admired.
Independence
We do not publish sponsored posts. We do not accept payment to feature, rank, or mention a product. Brands cannot buy a place in a Best guide, and they cannot buy a better one. No brand, agency or retailer sees a review before it is published, and none of them can ask for a change to a verdict after it is.
If a product is popular and has a real problem, the problem goes in the review. If a product we recommended develops one, the recommendation is withdrawn and the page says why.
How the site earns money
VSCTimes earns commission from affiliate links, mainly Amazon and Flipkart, when a reader buys through them. The price you pay is the same. Commission rates differ between products and retailers, and they play no part in what we recommend or where we rank it. Affiliate links carry a rel="sponsored" attribute so that search engines treat them correctly. The full explanation is in our affiliate disclosure.
We do not run display advertising, and we do not sell links or placements to anyone.
Review units
We buy most of what we test. When a brand supplies a unit, the review says so, the unit gets the same test as a purchased one, and the brand has no say in the outcome. We do not return a bad verdict in exchange for keeping the product, and we do not soften one to get the next one.
Who writes
Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, and every author on the site has tested products in the categories they cover. Their backgrounds are on the About page. Nothing is published under a generic staff byline.
The editor-in-chief reads every article before it goes live and is responsible for it after. Authors do not review products from companies they have a financial or personal connection with.
Testing
We do not review a product we have not used. Measured results and brand claims are labelled as such and never mixed. Where we have not measured something, we say it is a claim. The full method, including how long we test and what we measure in each category, is on How We Test.
Sources
When we cite a specification, a standard such as a BEE rating, or a regulation, we link to the manufacturer page, the government document, or the source, so that you can check it yourself. We do not quote another review site’s test result as our own.
Tools and AI
We use software for research, editing, checking numbers and building the site’s tools and calculators. Every test is done by a person, every verdict is a person’s opinion, and every article is written and checked by the named author. No review is generated from a specification sheet.
Updates and corrections
The Updated date on a page changes only when the content changed in a way that matters to a reader: a model added or removed, a price or regulation change, or a finding that changed with longer use. We do not change dates for appearance.
When we get a fact wrong, we correct it on the page. A correction that changes a verdict or a ranking is noted in the article so that readers who saw the earlier version know what changed. Send corrections to hello@vsctimes.com with the page link and what you found.
Comments
Comments are moderated for spam and abuse, not for opinion. Criticism of a product we recommended, or of our review, stays up. Questions about which product to buy are answered in the comments so that everyone can see the answer.
